TLM      Hydran TLM

Game:  HR4 #4213   Turn: 2  Impulse: 9 Status: SOP(s) due from Hydran

Web page last updated around 3/3/99

In Corner #1: Weighing 182,000 tons, Representing "800-pound Gorlilla" of pacifists John Trauger (AKA Vorlon)Andromedan TC

In Corner #2: Weighing 184,000 tons, Representing the only race to be entirely kicked off the F&E map *twice*, yet come back like cockroaches both times, Tom Gondolfi in the Hydran TLM

Wow.  Lots of "rerun" fights for me.  This one duplicates my HR4130 match.  Hopefully, I'll build on the mistakes I made there (like getting within range 3 of a Hydran with Hellbores armed--heck getting within range 3 of a Hydran with Fusions armed...)

Turn 1
Me: speed 17
Hydran: speed 14

OK, so he's not exactly charging out to meet me.  Geeze, I had the whole crew take a shower.  What more do you want?
IMP 1: Like a couple of Pop-Tarts, out come the Hydran's two fighters .
IMP 3: Now he's turning toward me.  That's cool by me.
IMP 27: Turn went pretty fast, huh.  Tom's puttering along at 14 the entire time while I'm playing coy along my map edge.
Now I put on that last little burst of speed. We almost got to the end of the turn then both I and the moderator forgot about the speed change to 31...
IMP 30:  A quick G-torp...
IMP 31:  ...A turn to F for me...
IMP 32: ...Then we top it off with a PPD and all the hot fudge you want!  Wavelock (of course).  Bounces against the Hydran shield 1 (of course).  The Hydan shot a standard HB at me and missed as well.

Turn 2
There was some mix-up as to whether I got wavelock or not.  My opponent thought I missed, same as his Hellbore, but it wasn't until we were ready to start Turn 2 that this question got resolved.  Instead of a rip-snorting' speed 20, he's actually going 14.  (hmmm...  wonder where the that power went?)  Me, I was so happy with speed 17, I declined to change it when Randy (the moderator) gave me the chance (along with Tom).
IMP 3:  Looks like most of that engine power went straight to his front shield.  5 point of reinforcement there and that was about it.  Looks like a 3-4-3 gnaw on his Front Three.
IMP 6: His fighters took a long range shot at my flank shield 3.  I was ready for the "notch the rear shield" game because a different Hydran played it on me to great effect.  % points incoming , 4-point bounce from my EA reinforcement and thanks to a quick note to a moderator about post-damage breaks for reinforcement, all 5 points bounced.  Care to put some of YOUR weapons behind that, Tom?  Or just fire the HB now and get it over with.

Curiously, he's been silent for a while now, too...
IMP 7: ISC announces speed change to 31...think fast, Tom.  I'm going to run away, away, away.
IMP 8: Hydran announces speed change to 26.  Maybe this will take a little longer than I thought...
SCORCH!!!  I let myself stray within Range 8 of the Hydran and he unloaded everything!  He shot 2 fusions and 5 P-1s at me, while dumping both P-G's into the onrushing plasma.  He didn't penetrate my Shield #3 (and the OL hellbore missed), but he dinged it pretty good.  For my part, I shot 3 P-1s at his Shield #1
IMP 9: Between the # of hexes traveled and the phasers, my plasma does a whopping 1 point to the Hydran Shield 5.

This is where this game ends.  Even though the question will never be answered in play, I still have to ask: do I continue in my (obvious) plan to run away from the Hydran while the PPD reloads or take advantage of the fact that he has fired EVERYTHING on his ship at try to go point-blank.  At best, I can get to Range-2 pr 3 to Tom, so it's a wash.  I now wish I hadn't thrown off those 3 P-1 at range.  It would be DEFINITELY worth it to run Tom down then.
